The amazing mixed media (acrylic, paper, and wood) crow pieces by Whidbey Island artist J. Ross keep flying out of the gallery. And it's easy to see why: the artist combines a unique technique with an obvious deep familiarity with these fascinating birds. J. Ross's statement puts it best:
I am a painter.
My work has a depth, a thickness of energy, and lives somewhere inside the worlds of figurative abstract painting, folk art, and sculpture.
My work is an ongoing conversation between texture and form and Spirit and color. For the last five years, I have been painting the spirit and energy of crow.
We bring a variety of artists and art forms to Bainbridge Island. Our emphasis on solo shows enables artists to explore and show a body of work. We kick off each show with a reception for the artists on the first Friday of each month. Our central location on Winslow Way makes us easy to find. And if you're coming from Seattle, we're just a ten-minute walk from the ferry.
Craig Kosak. We're very excited to be welcoming Seattle artist Craig Kosak in his first solo show at Gallery Fraga. Craig's work is grounded in realism, inspired by the graphic and iconic images of painters such as N.C. Wyeth and the landscapes and cloudscapes of Maxfield Parrish. The atmospheric aesthetic of Russell Chatham and the Hudson River painters often finds it way into his work. Click here to see all of the work in the show.
